I just got a call for a job interview... for a position as an on-air personality... at a radio station...
a soul and gospel station, where the DJs aren't paid a salary but pure commission on their ad sales.
Should I go?

"whitetrashsteve"
soul and gospel station
Diversity-based hiring?
I kid - if it's something you might want to do, go for it. If nothing else, you'd build reputation.

I dig the music.
I've often said that there are three things that will always bring people of different or even opposing cultural backgrounds together: Good food, good music, and good ideas.
The first two are a bit more powerful than the first because they're tangible.

Upload a youtube of your best radio voice, then I'll give my opinion. If you can sell me preparation H, you'll be amazing at DJing.

Well said. Also, culturally, soul and gospel folks tend to be very open and warm people, regardless of color involved. You could do quite well.
